WHO WE ARE

We are Wesley

"Light yourself on fire with passion and people will come from miles around to watch you burn."
-John Wesley

Ask any student and they will tell you that Wesley is welcoming, loving, accepting, safe, freeing, warm. In a word, Wesley is home. But the students are what make Wesley... Wesley! Taken together, we are a community of passionate searchers reaching for Truth. We want to love the best we can, serve the most we can, and follow the closest we can. Here, healing happens. Freedom comes. We say "yes" to God's call. God's Spirit lights us on fire and we learn to burn.

Worship Freely

Worship is essential to all Christian life. As we turn ourselves towards god in humility, thankfulness, and love, God inhabits our praise and we become more aware of who God is and who we were made to be. For us, worshiping freely means without constraint. Worship should be both corporate and individual, humble and bold, celebratory and reverent. We may gather in a common space, but every person is approaching God from a different place. Therefore, we embrace variety and diversity. So while we sing, we will also read scripture, we will pray, we will practice sacraments, and we will preach. Services are not all the same and worshipers don't all worship the same. That's okay with us. Although this style of worship is new to many of our students, most find it comforting. Some even find the space to say "yes" to the love of Jesus for the first time. All of them find a home.

Follow Christ

Life with Jesus is more than a once in a while thing. At the heart of Jesus' command to make disciples  is a call to love God and to love others. following Christ is a declaration followed by a life of purpose. It is by the power of the Holy Spirit, living and speaking through our community, that we explore what it means to follow Jesus together. In conversations, in family groups, in prayer groups, we reach towards that purpose together with a single goal: to develop and strengthen habits of the mind, soul, and body that lead to a deeper relationship with Jesus.

Serve With Impact

By the power of the Holy Spirit working in us, God has called us to transform the world in the name of Jesus. God calls everyone to this journey. Wesley gives students opportunities to serve on and off their campuses. We bring hope to people while meeting specific needs. Through missions, outreach, and hospitality teams, students can make a profound impact in the lives of others. Through our service, we build relationships that open doors for future ministry, explore who we are called to be, and awaken a desire to live a life of service.

3 Campuses. 1 Town. 1 Wesley.

Wesley Foundation of Macon serves Macon by having a ministry presence at Mercer University, Wesleyan College, and Middle Georgia State University. Each campus is unique and each student body has different needs, so we take a different approach to how we minister to each campus. We offer family groups and fellowship opportunities on all campuses while also offering opportunities for all three campuses to come together frequently. We have all-campus worship at Centenary UMC every Tuesday night during the school year. Students carpool from Wesleyan and MGA and rides are provided for students who want to attend but lack transportation. We have monthly all-campus events that everyone is encouraged to attend and once a month, we also have a Friday Worship Experience at the Wesley House.

Wesley is a place for all college-aged students in town to find community and experience the life changing presence of God.

Mercer University

Mercer University is where Wesley of Macon started ministry. It is the largest of the three campuses we serve and houses around 3,500 students with about 5,000 undergraduates in attendance. We have a very strong presence on campus and are a part of the Mercer Campus Ministry Alliance. We have nine students who currently serve on our ministry team there. We have family groups, prayer times, events, mission and outreach opportunities, and tons of chill time. We also have Wesley Lunch in the University Center on Thursdays.

Wesleyan

Wesleyan College is the oldest and the best! Wesleyan is a United Methodist College and we have a strong and growing presence on campus there. Over the last few years, the needs of the student body have shifted. We have one student who serves our ministry there and we are working with her to evaluate how we can best serve the spiritual needs of Wesleyannes. Along with frequent giveaways and game days on the quad, we currently host a fellowship time called Late Night Snack every Wednesday night from 8-10pm in Trice.

MGA

Middle Georgia State University is the newest campus that we serve. MGA is primarily a commuter and online campus and Wesley is one of the few student organizations working hard to create a culture of community on campus. Every Wednesday we have lunch and worship at 12:15pm. We have a family group that meets on campus and multiple giveaways, game days, and fellowship events throughout the year. We are currently working with our three MGA student interns to create even more opportunities to connect and grow in their relationship with God.

The Wesley House

The Wesley House is located at 1280 College Street, across the street from the main entrance to Mercer University. It is open on Mondays through Fridays from 9am-9pm for students to study, fellowship, and hang out. All are welcome! This is where we have our monthly meals before worship, as well as other miscellaneous events such as movie nights, Family groups, and others. We hope that you will find the Wesley House to be a home away from home while you are at school. We want you to feel welcome!

In addition to being a common area to study and relax, we have space for six residents in the basement of the Wesley House. If you or a student you know is interested in living in the Wesley House during the school year, please let us know so we can talk about what it means to live in Christian community with one another.
